Israeli attacks through the Gaza have killed dozens of Palestinians, including people looking for food in aid distribution centers, because the humanitarian situation already catastrophic in the besieged enclave is deteriorating day by day.
Medical sources told Al Jazeera on Sunday that at least 72 people had been killed since dawn at Israeli strikes targeting several locations across Gaza, including at least 47 in Gaza City and north of the territory.
Moath al-Kahlout d’Al Jazeera, reporting from Gaza City, described “catastrophic” scenes from the Al-Ahli hospital in the northern city, because dozens of injured civilians asked for Israeli strikes on the districts of Zeitoun and Sabra, as well as on the Al-Zawiya market.
“There are too many civilians injured here, including children. Many are lying on the ground because there are not enough medical beds or supplies to treat them. This establishment has trouble facing serious shortages,” he said.
“The Israeli army has dropped leaflets in eastern Gaza City, ordering civilians to move south. These leaflets are often followed by intense and repeated attacks, causing the large number of victims that we are witnessing now. ”
Sunday, the victims also included at least five applicants for Palestinian assistance killed near the food distribution centers led by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) North of Rafah, according to doctors.
Since the GHF, supported by the United States and Israeli, has taken care of the deliveries of limited aid in Gaza in the middle of a punishing Israeli blockade, Israeli soldiers have regularly shot Palestinians near the distribution centers, killing more than 580 people and injuring more than 4,000, according to the Gaza Media Bureau.
A recent report from the Haaretz newspaper of Israel quoted anonymous Israeli soldiers saying that they had Orders received Put on crowds of non -armed aid seekers to disperse them.
Geoffrey Nice, a human rights lawyer, told Al Jazeera that the killings that take place around the GHF were “inexplicable”.
“What is absolutely surprising for foreigners is that it is apparently to provide aid where it is desperately necessary, and those who provide you end up shooting hundreds of people,” said Nice, who also participated in the international criminal court for the former Yugoslavia.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis of the strip aggravates, babies and toddlers die due to a lack of nutrients.
Christy Black, an Australian nurse volunteering in Gaza City, said that the hospital in which she was based is less medical supplies, including formulas for pregnant women who need nasogastric food. This leaves a lot without the nutrients necessary for lactate-as well as the baby formula, she said.
“Our most vulnerable are dying,” Black told Al Jazeera. “We have seen some babies die in the past two days in Gaza City. It’s really desperate here. “
Malnutrition also makes it difficult to heal the injury, she said, adding that there is a significant increase in respiratory diseases due to the number of abandoned bombs on Gaza.
“We see children going through garbage trying to find something to eat … children who could be nine or 10 years old who look like two-year-old children,” she added.
With the Israeli bombardment of the relentless besieged enclave, there are indications of a new momentum to end the war following American and Israeli bombing of Iranian nuclear installations and the cease-fire which followed between Israel and Iran.
On Sunday, American president Donald Trump seemed determined to seal a truce. “Agree in Gaza. Get the hostages back !!” He said in an article of social truth. His comments came after He said he thought that a ceasefire could be reached in a week. “I think it’s close. I just talked to some of the people involved,” Trump said on Saturday.
Although Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not comment on the push for a truce, he said in last week that behind -the -side talks had taken place to try to guarantee a 60 -day break in the fighting.
Negotiations revolve around a proposal advanced by the United States in March to extend the first phase of a cease-fire that Israel violated by taking up its bombing of Gaza.
Hamdah Salhut of Al Jazeera, reported from Amman, Jordan, said: “Netanyahu has been very pressure because Trump has been quite frank for some time that he wants to see a cease-fire in Gaza.”
“And before Israel’s attacks on Iran, about two weeks ago, there was a lot of pressure from European allies due to the conduct of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip,” she said.
Meanwhile, the District Court of Jerusalem has canceled this week’s hearings in the longtime corruption trial of Netanyahu, accepting a request that the Israeli leader made, citing classified diplomatic and security reasons.
It was not clear if a publication on Trump’s social networks – a suggesting that the trial could interfere with Netanyahu’s ability to join negotiations with Hamas and Iran – influenced the court’s decision.
The decision, seen by Reuters, said that new reasons provided by Netanyahu, the head of the Israeli spy agency Mossad and the military intelligence chief justified the cancellation of the hearings.
Netanyahu was charged in 2019 for corruption, fraud and violation of confidence – which he denies. He launched the trial against him as a orchestrated leftist witch hunt intended to overthrow a democratically elected right chief.
On Friday, the court rejected a request from Netanyahu to delay its testimony for the following two weeks due to diplomatic and security issues following the 12 -day conflict between Israel and Iran, which ended last Tuesday.
He was to take a position on Monday for the counter-examination.
“It is the madness that does what the uncontrollable prosecutors do to Bibi Netanyahu,” said Trump in a social article of truth. He said Washington, having given billions of dollars of aid for Israel, was not going to “defend this.”
A spokesperson for the Israeli accusation refused to comment on the post of Trump. Netanyahu republished Trump’s comments on X and added: “Thank you again, @realdonaldtrump. Together, we will make the Middle East big again!”
Trump said that Netanyahu is currently negotiating an agreement with Hamas, although none of the two leaders provided details, and although officials on both sides were soon expressed skepticism on the prospects of ceasefire.
