James Anderson will be Captain Lancashire for the first time in professional cricket when he will intervene as a skipper for the next two club championship matches.
The test of all time testing in England, 41, will shift Marcus Harris, who returned to Australia for the birth of his second child.
Anderson will run the Lancashire – which is at the second bottom of the two -draw division with five draws and two losses of seven games – against Kent at Blackpool on Sunday, then for the match against Derbyshire in Chesterfield from June 29.
The Paceman has played only one championship match this season – taking five counters in the home confrontation with the Derbyshire – after missing the first laps due to a veal strain.

Anderson, however, put 10 counters in four vitality games for the County of Rose Red, with features of three counters against the Worcestershire, Northampothire and Durham.
He will become the third captain of the Lancashire Red-Ball this quarter, after Harris and Keaton Jennings, the latter left after the bad start to the club.
Interim coach Steven Croft, who is temporary in charge after the departure of Dale Benkenstein, said about Anderson BBC Sport: “It’s exciting for him and us.
“He only capitalized once and it was in a T20 match of the pre-season tour in Dubai, so it will be good for Jimmy and nice for guys. He obviously has a lot to offer on and off the field.
“It will be a proud moment for him. It is obviously not everything on Jimmy, but it helps and his presence, especially as a captain, is a massive boost for the rest of the guys.”
