The legend of mixed martial arts (MMA) Jon Jones retired, and the acting heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall was raised to the holder of the undisputed title, Dana White, the president and chief executive of the ultimate combat championship (UFC).
“Jon Jones called us last night and retired,” White said at a press conference on Saturday in Azerbaijan, where UFC combat evening took place.
“Jon Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the UFC heavyweight champion.”
Jones, who will be 38 years old on July 19, compiled a record for victories-victories of 28-1 with 11 KB in total (TKOS), capturing UFC titles to a light heavyweight and heavy goods vehicles. He was online for a highly anticipated unification fight with Aspinall, 32, who became the acting champion of UFC heavyweights in November 2023 when a wounded Jones could not fight.
English aspinall (15-3 win-loss in MMA, 11 tkos, 8-1 win-loss in UFC) published a message on Instagram after White’s announcement.
“For you, fans. It’s time to advance this heavyweight division,” wrote Aspinall, 32. “An undisputed active champion.”

Jones fight for the last time November 16, 2024, winning by a third round TKO on Stipe Miocic. Jones has won six consecutive fights since non-concours with Daniel Cormier on July 29, 2017.
The announcement of White away Jones’ words Thursday when he appeared on the “Send full” podcast.
“I do not mean that I am retired because the fights are in my blood,” said Jones on the Podcast, according to several media reports. “Right now, I could really worry about the fights. I have made it all my life at a very high level and when the itching will come back – and if it comes back too, I will do it with all my heart, do it at best my capacities.”
Jones had a story with a checkered of the octagon, where he became the youngest holder of the UFC title at 23 with a victory against Mauricio Rua for the 205 pound crown. Jones, who is 16-0 years old in UFC titles battles, dealt with legal problems as a year suspension in 2016 for having tested positive for performance-enhancing Drugs-a result he disputes.

Meanwhile, the former Challenger of Light Trucks of the UFC, Khalil Routree Jr, made a dominant unanimous decision against Jamahal Hill during the main event of the fighting evening, taking the cards 49-46, 50-45, 50-45.
