The captain who came out Kevin de Bruyne was “surprised” to be informed that his career in Manchester City was over because he feels that he can always occur at the highest level.
The playmaker in Belgium will be 34 years old in June, but, unlike his rivals in the middle of 30 years in Liverpool, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk, he did not have the opportunity to extend his 10 -year career at Etihad.
De Bruyne thinks that City made an error on this front and felt if the club season had been at standard – they are in a battle just to ensure football in the Champions League despite the 2-0 victory in Everton – he may have been asked to stay.
“I had no offer all year round, they just made a decision,” he said.
“Obviously, I was a little surprised but I just have to accept it. Honestly, I always think that I can play at this level as I show, but I understand that the clubs must make decisions.
“Perhaps if the team has not fought and I came back as I did this year and that I went to bed as normal, then maybe they make another decision.”
De Bruyne said that he had made no decision concerning his future when he focuses on the race to obtain a top five to extend the city’s race in the Champions League in the 15th successive season.
It has already been linked to measures in major football leagues in the United States, but it seems that he still has conceptions to play at the highest level as he can.
“I feel like I still have a lot to give. Obviously, I know that I am no longer 25 years old but I always have the impression of being able to do my job,” he added.
“I am open to anything. I have to look at the whole photo. I look at sport, the family, everything together, which makes the most sense for me and my family.
“I like to play football. I like to compete. That’s what I feel, so I can’t say I want to stop because I always think that I am in training, I want to beat the guys.
“I feel like it is really good and that’s why I have also played a lot lately.”
While De Bruyne did not exclude staying in the Premier League, his last games feel like a farewell tour and he was applauded to Goodison Park, where City won for the ninth successive and final time thanks to very late goals from Nico O’Reilly and Mateo Kovacic.
At least, he looked like one of the few players trying to inject life into a life -free performance and that lacked intensity and any threat of real goal until the 84th minute.
“It’s something really rare to get out and get applause from another team, so I just want to thank them. I think they appreciate the way I play,” said Bruyne.
“The way Everton plays is difficult. Defensively, they are solid and we tried to break this, but it was difficult.
“We had difficulties in the future, especially in the first half. We needed two late goals but I think we did well.”
