Kylian Mbappe is in hospital receiving treatment for gastroenteritis, Real Madrid announced.
Mbappe missed the match of the Real Madrid Club World Cup against the Saudi side Al Hilal on Wednesday.
The press release said: “Our Kylian Mbappé player suffers from acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized for various tests and treatments.”
Mbappe played a decisive role for Real Madrid this season, scoring 31 goals from Laliga since its high -level summer move from Paris St Germain.
Real Madrid enters the tournament as one of the favorites, having dominated European football in the last decade, winning five of the last 10 titles in the Champions League, but only drew 1-1 with Al Hilal without Mbappe.
According to the NHS website, gastroenteritis is a common mild stomach insect characterized by diarrhea and vomiting, often linked to food poisoning. It usually lasts less than a week.
Madrid returns to the action of the club World Cup on Sunday, face Pachuca in North Carolina.
