Largest Jewelry Heist in U.S. History: 7 Men Charged

Seven men were charged in the context of a flight in 2022 that federal prosecutors described as “the greatest robbery of jewelry in American history”, according to a June 17 press release from the American lawyer’s office for the California central district.

Defendants – identified as Carlos Victor Mestanza Cercado31, Jazael Padilla Rest36, Pablo Raul Lugo Larroig41, Victor Hugo Valencia Solorzano60 years old, Jorge Enrique Alban33 years old, Jeson Nelon Flores Flore42 years old, and Eduardo Macias Ibarra36 years old – was accused of stolen nearly $ 100 million in gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and luxury watches of an armored car in July 2022, according to the press release.

At the time, the truck carried 73 bags containing millions of dollars in jewelry that had been exhibited at an international jewelry fair in San Mateo, California, according to the prosecutors. The men would have followed the vehicle in 300 miles before stopping it in Lébec, California, and flying 24 of the bags, which the victims estimated at $ 100 million.
