The visit of the head of security comes after Iran expressed his opposition to a government plan to disarm Hezbollah.
The president of Lebanon told a senior Iranian official that Beirut rejects any interference in his internal affairs and criticized Tehran’s statements disarm hezbollah as “non -constructive”.
On Wednesday, the visit of the Iran National Security National Security Head, Ali Larijani, occurs on Wednesday a week after the Lebanese government ordered the army to design plans by the end of 2025 to disarm the Lebanese armed group aligned by Iran.
Iran expressed its opposition to the disarmament plan HezbollahWho before a war with Israel last year would be better armed than the Lebanese army.
“It is forbidden to anyone … to carry weapons and to use foreign support as a lever effect,” Aoun told Larijani, according to a press release from the Lebanese presidency published on X.
Larijani responded to Aoun by declaring that Iran does not intervene in Lebanese decision -making and that foreign countries should not give orders in Lebanon.
“Any decision taken by the Lebanese government in consultation with the Resistance is respected by us,” he said after separate talks with the president of Parliament Nabih Berri, whose Amal movement is an ally of Hezbollah.
“Iran has not brought any plan to Lebanon, the United States.
He said Lebanon should not “mix its enemies with his friends – your enemy is Israel, your friend is resistance”.
Larijani has also added that Lebanon should appreciate Hezbollah and its “resistance value”.
Reporting Beirut, Zeina Khodr of Al Jazeera said that Larijani seemed to have softened his language during the visit.
“Ali Larijani used more diplomatic language than … a few days ago (when) it was frank that Iran opposes the Lebanese government’s decision to disarm Hezbollah.”
“He said that Iran’s policy concerned friendly cooperation, without giving orders and schedules, so he was referring to the United States, the American envoy, who presented a plan to end tensions with Israel, and that the plan implies the disarmament of Hezbollah (on) a four-month schedule.”
Dozens of Hezbollah supporters gathered along the airport road to welcome Larrijani on Wednesday morning. He came out briefly from his car to greet them while chanting slogans.
“If … the Lebanese people suffer, we in Iran, we will also feel this pain and we will stay with the dear people of Lebanon in all circumstances,” Larijani told journalists shortly after landing in Beirut.
The Iranian official should also meet Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, as well as Berri, who is close to Hezbollah.
Iran has undergone a series of blows in its longtime rivalry with Israel, especially for 12 days of open war between the two countries in June.
Hezbollah, on the other hand, was weakened during the war with Israel, which ended with a ceasefire in November 2024 that Israel continue to violate.
The new Lebanese government, supported by the United States, has decided to further restrict the group.
“What the new Lebanese management wants is a state -by -state relationship, not as in the past where … the Iranians are dealing with Hezbollah and not (with) the Lebanese state,” Khodr said.
Hezbollah called on the government’s decision of disarmament A “serious sin”.
Khodr said tensions had aroused concerns about potential disorders in the country.
Hezbollah is part of Iran’s so -called “resistance axis” – a network of armed groups aligned in the region, including Hamas in Gaza and the Houthi rebels of Yemen, which oppose Israel.
