Tottenham boss, Ange Postcoglou, confirmed that midfielder Lucas Bergvall was excluded for the rest of the season due to an injury.
Bergvall was absent from the match team for 3-1 victory against Bodo / Glimt on Thursday after taking an ankle injury during the preparation for the first stage of his semi-final of the Europa League.
Speaking before the meeting with West Ham on Sunday, Postcoglou said: “Lucas, seems that the injury is important to keep it away for the rest of the season. He refined the ankle ligaments.”
When asked how the injury had occurred during training, Postcoglou added: “It was not a tackle, he went to turn and his ankle gave in. These are things that happen.
“He is extremely disappointed and there is not much to say. Each experience of life and football makes you stronger. He has an incredible career in front of him.
“He refused him the opportunity to play in a big match last night. He will come back stronger. Each player must go through setbacks.”
The Spurs boss also offered updates to Dominic Solanke and James Maddison, who were forced to go with the blows during the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as well as Captain Heung-Min who missed the last five games.
“Dom (Solanke), we don’t think it’s too serious. It is a doubt for the weekend,” continued Postcoglou.
“(James) Madders is a little more worrying because it is the knee. We sent it for a scan and await the result.
“The son is on the grass and feels better every day. We will see about Thursday.”
The boss of Tottenham is aware that his team does not have much to play in the Premier League, since they languish in 16th, and admitted that he would “probably” make “wholesale changes to the starting program at the London stadium on Sunday.
The second stage of the semi-final is scheduled for May 8, four days after facing the Graham Potter team in eastern London, and Postocoglou will use the lighting as an opportunity to rest the main players while putting the others at speed, if they are necessary for Bodo.
When asked if he would bring major changes or not, he said: “Probably. This is important for us because it is a quick turnaround.
“We have had problems and we continue to have them because this is the way our season takes place.
“We are going to make changes to put solid performance, but also to give rest to certain players. We must also update them.”
