Manny Pacquiao says he left “two or three fights” in him while he is trying to win the Welter WBC world title with the victory over Mario Barrios.
Pacquiao Combatra Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand Las Vegas after the WBC granted him a lawyer to the world of Barrios in this return fight.
The 46 -year -old man comes back from a four -year layout and tries to break his own record by becoming the oldest Welters weight champion in the history of boxing.
The former senator and presidential candidate for his native Philippines has not won since he boxed Keith Thurman in 2019, his last fight a solid loss against Yordenis Ugas in 2021.
He ran to recover a seat in the Senate this year, but finished 18th in the mid-term elections, quickly confirming that he would return to the ring thereafter.
Now Pacquiao is “All in” on his chance to have a world title again and thinks he has “strength” to keep boxing for the years to come.
“This fight is very important to me because it is the story. I think I would be the first temple of fame to win another world title, and I would also break my own record as older world of Welters”, said Pacquiao.
“When I retired in 2021, it was not a good feeling because I had it in my heart and my mind that I can still fight. I always knew that I could always work hard and devote myself and focus on training. I have rested and now I’m back.
“I feel quickly and I have the impression that strength is still there. I can always do what I did before training. If anything, my team at the moment is trying to slow me down and make sure that I am enough. I still want to push myself every day, but I know I have to listen to my team.
“I think I have two or three other fights left. I feel like I can do it for a few more years. But I just take it one at a time.
“I had a lot of distractions and problems before Yordenis Uga’s fight. But right now, I’m 100% and there is no distractions. I’m just training and focusing completely on the fight.”
Curiously, Conor Benn is eligible to challenge the winner of Pacquia-Barrios.
Benn lost against Chris Eubank Jr in Middleweight and should be beaten his rival later this year.
But that will not exclude him by the challenge for the WBC belt at 147 pounds, despite the boxing of the division for several years and the loss of his last fight.
“He is classified by WBC, Eubank is also classified by WBC, different weight categories. It is up to him (Benn). At the moment, if he makes a revenge match, then he will not challenge for WBC for a while but he is eligible,” said WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman Sky Sports.
