Marc Marquez stages a luminous victory to record his ninth German MotoGP victory while the podium contenders crash.
Marc Marquez has proven once again why he is known as the “King of Sachsenring” when the rider Ducati marked his 200th MotoGP in early the German Grand Prix in a race which became a survival test after only 10 of the 18 runners finished.
MotoGP’s ninth victory of Marquez at Sachsenring extended his lead over the championship against his brother Alex, who finished second, at 83 points while his Marc teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, finished third to sit on 147 points behind.
Alex Marquez had started fifth on the grid and took second place in his 100th start from MotoGP despite the withdrawal of a fractured hand he suffered at the Dutch Grand Prix two weeks ago, which required surgery.
Several runners crashed during the race, especially in the first round – including Fabio Di Giannantonio from VR46 Racing and Marco Bezzecchi from Aprilia when they were in second place.
But the day belonged to Marc Marquez when he scored his last triumph on his favorite hunting field by standing on his bike and making a template while he was spending the checkered flag – a fourth consecutive weekend where he had won the sprint and the race.
“Another (victory in the Sachsenring) was super special. From the start, I felt good, confidence when I started the weekend was super high because we came from three consecutive victories,” he said.
“We are in an incredible moment. Now we can say that half of the season is over. Now (the second) half, we must still be super concentrated.”
More runners fall under difficult conditions
Pedro Acosta became the third rider to crash very early after Lorenzo Savadori and Miguel Oliveira, the young Spaniard giving his machine to frustration.
Di Giannantonio had broken the tour record in Friday training and gave Marc Marquez a difficult period at the start of the Sprint race on Saturday.
But the Italian could not push stronger to catch up with Marquez, who found a comfortable rate and pace to increase more than two seconds, despite removing the accelerator on two laps to keep its tires.
While Marquez’s advance extended to more than three seconds, the Di Giannantonio challenge ended on the downhill braking zone in the first round when he lost control and crashed, his bike falling on the gravel while he escaped unscathed.
Johann Zarco of LCR Honda, who started second on the grid before being pushed into the order, crashed in the same turn a few seconds later.
Bezzecchi had switched to second row, but Aprilia’s rider also bit the dust in the next round in the first round, moving Alex Marquez in the second row while Bagnaia suddenly found himself in the positions of the podium.
Accidents did not end there because Ai Ogura of Trackhouse Racing lost its balance in the first round and ended up eliminating Joan Mir de Honda in the process, leaving only 10 of the 18 runners.
Yamahaha Fabio Quarararo finished fourth in front of the Gresini race team at Alex Marquez, Fermin Aldeguer.
