The Celtic signed the back left Marcelo Saracchi by Boca Juniors on a loan of a season.
The 27 -year -old moved Argentina as ninth add of the Celtic of the summer, but Sky Sports News understands that there is no option to buy in the agreement.
Saracchi, which has nine ceilings for Uruguay, will provide a backup to Kieran Tierney, which could allow Hayato Inamura to go on loan.
His career began in Danubio, Uruguay before joining River Plate in 2017. After a season, he moved to the Bundesliga Club Rb Leipzig but only made 27 appearances before being loaned to the Turkish team Galatasaray during the 2020/21 season.
The left back joined Levante in Spain before returning to South America with Boca Juniors.
Saracchi said Celtic TV: “I am delighted to be here. I met all the boys and my dominant emotion is just excitement and I can’t wait to start.
“I have known for a while that I came, so there is a lot of excitement there and I can’t wait to start, go out and play, and I can’t wait to be there.
“I remember Celtic Park fans. They were incredible and the stadium had a good atmosphere.
“The pressure to play for a big club is something I am thriving on. It doesn’t bother me, it’s the opposite. I look forward to it and I think it pushes me to be better.”
South American football expert Tim Vickery on Sky Sports News:
“It is a small left back, very, very fast. When he passed, I had huge hopes for this player, real hopes.
“I thought he was the future of Uruguay on the left back, and I thought he was for a brilliant career. So far, it has proven to be a little disappointed.
“He crossed Germany without doing a lot, Turkey a little more, a little in Spain, then back in Argentina. So he rebounded.
“I think what he may need in his career is a bit of stability.
“As a striker left, I think there are many things that Celtic can get out of him, especially because it is clearly in a league where Celtic will be on the front foot for the vast majority of time.
“So I hope it can be the movement where Saracchi finally unlocks this potential that I saw a few years ago, but has not really been released so far.”
Kieran Tierney’s return to Parkhead was the first confirmed summer transfer, after the defender accepted a pre-contract with his childhood club.
