Match report – Warrington 16 – 24 Huddersfield

Huddersfield Giants amaze Warrington Wolves to win his second Super League victory this season; Leigh Leopards also stormed a dominant victory of 26-12 on the Catalan dragons.

Huddersfield amazed Warrington with a 24-16 victory to win a second Super League victory of the season with the two trials of Jacob Gagai to reserve the triumph of the Giants.

It was a sticky afternoon in more ways than one for Wire – although unfortunately not with regard to their manipulation, with a number of unl forced errors proving expensive – as the thunderstorms planned gave way to sunny and humid conditions at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

Despite a late increase with two trials within 15 minutes of fence, Warrington could not catch the team which was without victory until last month.

“I am delighted for players and fans,” said Huddersfield head coach Luke Robinson. “I am delighted for players in particular because I don’t think people do how hard they worked.

“It is very easy to turn each other, to turn on your coach, when you do not win any games and they have been incredibly unwavering in their culture.

“We should probably have won about four or five games like that earlier in the season, so to go out on the other side, it’s a real mental obstacle for us.

“What we have to try to do now is to keep this momentum and keep this form.”

Marc Sneyd scored Warrington’s first try and launched two conversions

Huddersfield lost the back of Sam Hewitt because of a head injury after three minutes and despite some early early errors giving the hosts a lot of possession, Huddersfield was more clinical.

The 15th minute error of George Williams saw his pass intercepted 10 meters from the Huddersfield line by Tui Lolohea which ran 50 meters before unloading in Gagai to cross.

Jake Bibby doubled his head, turning from Sam Halsall’s pass, after Warrington, who made his debut at Sam Stone after joining Salford, had conceded a late penalty of Jordy Crowther on Matt Frewley.

The mistakes did not stop coming and the short abandonment of the giants turned with a helping hand that gave the hosts a fray in front of the posts, and Marc Sneyd made his way, then won the kick to make the deficit in half.

George Flanagan’s penalty extended the advance at 14-6 in half an hour while visitors finished half.

On the Hooter, Crowther made an accusation of touge of the eyes, which led to Taane Milne’s report with the video referee unable to find any evidence.

King finally tried to leave the hosts 12 behind with so many minutes remaining, then Thewlis plunged, but, with a frantic finish in offerings, the failed kick of Sneyd left the hosts too much when their season continued to disentangle with a fifth defeat in six games.

The sliding of the Catalans continues against Leigh

Leigh condemned Catalan dragons to their seventh consecutive defeat in all competitions with a 26-12 victory in stifling conditions at the Gilbert Brutus stadium.

Although the worst sequence of defeats in their history has continued, there were signs of recovery while the dragons followed the rhythm of Leigh until the end of the second half.

As for the leopards, roaring by 1,600 vocal supporters in Perpignan, they seem to be shoo-in for a place of dam in the Super League and will not fear anyone if they can keep their players in shape at the end of the season.

Leigh crossed 10 minutes before the interval when Lachlan Lam and the great-back David Armstrong created the space so that Tesi Niu could sprint on the left 10 meters. Gareth O’Brien converted the key line for an advance of 6-0.

Leigh quickly doubled his advantage when Lam turned the ball on the opposite flank so that the winger Keanan Brand can score in the right corner, with O’Brien again converted.

The dragons quickly opened their account while the giant propulsion Tevita Pangai Junior crashed on the short-term line just before half-time.

The game test came from the hosts eight minutes after the interval when Tommy Makinson ended a flourishing attack involving Luke Keary and Oliver Partington, and a magnificent pass from Sam Tomkins.

Makinson’s conversion leveled the scoring, but he missed a second penalty in the 55th, which would have placed the dragons.

Pangai Junior was rooted in the 65th minute for late contact and raised on O’Brien. The penalty has bounded in posts and Leigh feasted to place the Joe Ofhengaue accessory in the short term to resume advance at 18-12.

And in the 72nd minute, the lateral rear Armstrong left on a puffy break of 60 meters, race around its opposite number Tomkins for the killer test.

O’Brien converted to extend Leigh’s advantage in 24-12, before adding a penalty of 79th minute to finish the scoring.
