Netball Super League: Loughborough Lightning Book Spot in the Grand Final with 69-57 Victory on Manchester Thunder | Netball News

Loughborough Lightning continued his hunt for a historic three peat while they were beating Manchester Thunder 69-57 in the preliminary final of the Super League to reserve their place in the grand finale.

The reigning champions Lightning, which were beaten by Pulse last week, made a return to the preliminary final when they came from behind to record their victory on Sunday.

The Thunder went to 19-12 after the first quarter, but lightning did not let the pressure go there while they made a roaring return in the second.

Lightning defender Jodie Gibson converted five super shots at two points in the second quarter when she helped his team fight for a 37-30 advance advance.

Thunder then decided that they had to regroup and called a tactical time period when they had 44-33, but they could not then have continued their grip.

The reigning champions led 52-40 before the last quarter when they remained clear to reserve revenge with London Pulse in the grand final next Sunday at the O2 Arena in London, live Sky Sports.

Player of the match, Alice Harvey of Lightning said: “It means so much.

“It was a performance we were proud of, and we showed grain.

“We were different today, and I would say not to underestimate a lightning rebound, we are very good at that. We have taken an individual responsibility, and we really want to do the three peat. Our performance today showed it.”

Manchester’s head coach Karen Greig said his team was not good enough for the match long enough.

“We wanted four coherent quarters and we just didn’t have that in us tonight,” she said Sky Sports.

“We had a solid first quarter, but there was one point in the second quarter when we were just passengers on the ground.”
