Newcastle Falcons announce the takeover by Red Bull and unveil the new name – but stay at Kingston Park | Rugby Union News



Red Bull took full ownership of Newcastle Rugby Ltd, rebounding the Gallagher Prem Club as “Newcastle Red Bulls”.

The otherwise named “Newcastle Falcons” will continue to play Kingston Park and Steve Diamond will remain his role as director of rugby.

They will compete as Red Bulls of the 2025/2026 season.

In a press release, Newcastle said: “The newly named Red Bulls Newcastle will proudly remain at Kingston Park and will be based for a commitment to develop local rugby talents thanks to a reinforced academic program, offering a world -class fan experience and adopting the innovative approach that Red Bull has brought to its sports initiatives.”

Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Red Bull Projects and Business Investments, said: “Together, we aim to raise rugby to new heights and deliver unforgettable moments to our fans. We are delighted to have acquired Newcastle Red Bulls and we are impatient to empower the club to reach its complete competitive potential.”

The CEO of RFU, Bill Sweeney, said: “Red Bull’s investment in Newcastle is a very positive development and demonstrates the confidence and potential of Gallagher Prem, which experiences growing frequent, an increase in young people and an increase in television viewers.

“We were happy to support the club, the League and the Red Bull in the process which will be the first major major investment in a prem club since 2016.

“Having a Gallagher Prem club in northern England is essential to rugby in the region both to preserve a base of rugby fans and its role in the development of talents and community awareness.

“We are impatiently waiting for Newcastle Red Bulls to go from force to force next season and congratulate all the people involved to make the announcement of today a reality.”
