The office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged the United States to reverse a decision To revoke the visa of the Palestinian leader, just a few weeks before he was attended the United Nations General Assembly (Unga) in New York.
Friday, the Palestinian presidency expressed “astonishment” to Washington’s decision to cancel the visas for Abbas and 80 other Palestinian officials before the high -level meetings next month at the UN headquarters.
Abbas has been for the general assembly for many years and generally leads the Palestinian delegation.
“We call on the US administration to cancel its decision,” the Associated Press, spokesperson for Abbas, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said on Saturday, warning that this decision “will only increase tension and climbing”.
“We have been in contact since yesterday with the Arab and foreign countries, in particular those who care directly about this problem. This effort will continue 24 hours a day,” said Abu Rudeineh.
The spokesman also urged other countries to put pressure on the administration of US President Donald Trump to cancel his decision, including in particular those who organized a high-level conference on the revival of the two-state solution.
Located on September 22, the conference is co-organized by France and Saudi Arabia.
“Ideologically led”

Rubio also accused the AP of participating in “Lawfare campaigns”, including calls for the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to hold the Israelis responsible for abuses in Gaza and occupied West Bank.
But Matt Duss, executive vice-president of the Center for International Policy, a reflection group based in the United States, accused that the Trump administration “clearly violates the diplomatic protocol” in its decision to revoke the visas.
As a host state, the United States is supposed to grant visas to representatives and officials of the UN members to visit the headquarters of the international organization in New York.
“What is happening here is clearly conducted ideologically,” Duss told Al Jazeera.
“There are people inside the Trump administration who work closely with the right-wing Israeli government and their objective is to simply suppress the Palestinian Liberation Movement of the International Agenda,” he said.
“They do not recognize the right of Palestinian peoples to the state, and they both try to prevent this on the ground in Palestine and now they try to remove them from the New York International Agenda.”
European criticism
Meanwhile, the head of the European Union foreign policy said that the block called Washington to reconsider his refusals of visa.
“In the light of the agreements existing between the UN and its host state, we all urge this decision to be reconsidered,” Kaja Kallas said on Saturday following a meeting of the EU foreign ministers in Copenhagen.
The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot, also said that the General Assembly “cannot undergo any restrictions on access”.
“The United Nations is a place of neutrality, a sanctuary dedicated to peace, where conflicts are resolved,” said Barrot.
Meanwhile, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he spoke with Abbas on Saturday to express his “firm support” after the “unfair” visas.
“Palestine has the right to make its voice heard to the United Nations and in all international forums,” wrote Sanchez in an article on social networks.
