Resident doctors stage a ranging – but are they justified to demand a higher salary?

The talks between the British Medical Association (BMA) and the government broke down, triggering a Five of five days from Friday And the threat of monthly debraying until an agreement is concluded.

The government already has awarded a salary increase of 5.4% This year, bringing wages for the doctors of the foundation between £ 38,831 and £ 44,439, and up to £ 73,992 for people in specialized training. But the BMA maintains that this does not become again where the salary should be, after more than a decade of decrease in real terms.

It provides that the salary amounts between £ 47,308 and £ 54,274 for the foundation doctors and up to £ 90,989 at the upper end of specialized training – a progressive 29% increase over time.

The Secretary of Health, Wes Streting, described the strike as “completely unjustified” and said that the current remuneration offer was right. But the BMA insists that current wages do not reflect the requirements of labor or debt that many junior doctors have the school of medicine.

The NHS Confederation warns that each salary increase of 0.1% through service costs 125 million more pounds per year, and with 75,000 junior doctors in England, the satisfaction of BMA demand could reach billions.
