After Doha helped mediate, Qatari diplomat Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz al-Khulafi County is committed for descend.
Qatari diplomat Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulafi welcomed the peace agreement Between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), saying that it came after several series of talks, some of which were held in Doha.
The agreement, signed in Washington, DC on Friday with the support of the United States and Qatar, will see Rwandan soldiers withdraw from the DRC and the two countries have set up mechanisms to improve commercial and security cooperation.
“We hope that the parties will join the agreement to defuse and strengthen the security and stability of the region,” he said Minister of Foreign Affairs in Al Jazeera al-Klalifi.
Al-Klalifi added that the meeting Between Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame, organized by Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha in March, was followed by a series of talks, paving the way for Friday’s agreement.
“Qatar has excellent relations with the two countries and has won the confidence of the two countries as mediator and international partner trying to solve these problems,” he said.
“Doha was a platform for these meetings, and we have contributed (to reach the agreement) with the United States.”
The Reuters news agency reported earlier this month that Qatar had presented a project peace proposal in Rwanda and the DRC after negotiations in Doha.
On Friday, the United States Department of State said that the United States, Qatar, the African Union and Togo “will continue to initiate the two parties to guarantee the implementation of the obligations set out in the agreement”.
The agreement aroused the hope of putting an end to the conflict in the DRC, where the M23 armed group supported by Rwanda has progressed in the east rich in the country’s resources.
Renewed violence had aroused fears of triggering a full -fledged conflictSimilar to the wars that the DRC endured in the late 1990s, involving several African countries, which killed millions of people.
“Qatar fully believes in dialogue as the cornerstone for having resolved conflicts by peaceful means,” said Al-Khulifi.
“Qatar believes that mediation is a pillar of its foreign policy. This is why, hopefully, you will find Qatar which is always flowing to try to solve the problems between countries, even the countries geographically far from Qatar. ”
Qatar has played a key role in competition from diplomatic agreements in various conflicts around the world in recent years. More recently, he helped mediate the ceasefire agreement which ended the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.
“What I like is that this agreement came a few days after another agreement to which Qatar contributed with the United States-and it is the cease-fire between Iran and Israel,” said Al-Klatifi. “Qatar will spare no effort to initiate more attempts to defuse and pursue peaceful means to end these conflicts.”
