The Rangers head coach Russell Martin thinks that his players will benefit from the advantages of their winning departure against Panathinaikos.
A new era for the Ibrox side started with a 2-0 victory during the first stage of their second round qualifier in the Champions League to an Ibrox with closed counters.
Findlay Curtis, aged eighteen, opened the scoring with his first goal for the club before Djeidi Gassama left the bench to score during his beginnings.
After the match, Martin insisted that there will be much more to come on his side, saying: “We will be much better for that.
“We had a few moments difficult earlier in the first half after a good start, then a few stubborn moments because we were playing a very good team with good players and a good coach.
“They have been together for a while, longer than us. I was really proud and really satisfied with the players for the way they crossed it, and also the crowd, for the way they stayed with the team through a few difficult moments, which was incredible.”
Martin was also at the top of the praise of Curtis, whose curling effort ended a dominant spell of Panathinaikos.
“I think that Findlay (Curtis) probably embodied us. In the first half, he was a little tense. He received too many bullets in positions that we do not want him to do, but he is so arranged and has such a brilliant character and mentality, and it was also reflected in the rest of the group.
“I hope this is the beginning of something (for Curtis). He just had words of wisdom by Sir Alex (Ferguson) there; I don’t think you can ask more than that.
“He must keep his feet on the ground. Moreover, even, I spoke before the match with the guys on television why he is in the team, and I think he has the character and the mentality to play for this club.
“We have to make sure with the end that this is only the beginning and that he continues to improve and continue to want to improve. It is the best piece of him, it is his attitude and his will to learn.”
