Ring cameras and bells now use AI to provide specific descriptions of movement activity

Ring belonging to Amazon announced Wednesday that it introduced a new feature fueled by AI to its bells and cameras, which offers users specific text descriptions of the current movement activity.

Now, when users receive real -time notifications on events on their property, updates will be more descriptive. For example, “a person climbs the steps with a black dog” or “two individuals look at a white car parked in the aisle”.

The functionality aims to improve the waves notifications that were previously available. From now on, users will be able to know exactly what is going on and can quickly decide if it requires immediate attention. It should be noted that AI only describes the first seconds of the video clip activated by the movement.

Functionality is being deployed today as a beta in English only for Ring Home Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada. Users can choose to deactivate the functionality by going to the Ring application settings.

According to a blog post of Jamie Siminoff, the founder of Ring and now the Vice-President of Home Security of Amazon, the company plans to introduce additional AI features. One of them combines several movement events in and around a house in a single alert.

Ring also intends to implement a “personalized anomaly alert” which allows users to define what constitutes an anomaly for their property, allowing the camera to inform them when such an event occurs.

In addition, Siminoff has mentioned that Ring “will learn your routine”, so that he can inform users when something is out of the ordinary. This can be disturbing for some users, especially given the Ring past confidentiality.

“We are just starting to scratch the surface of the AI. I have the impression that we are back at the very first days of the ring – I see an unlimited potential for new experiences that we can invent to our neighbors,” wrote Siminoff.

This announcement follows the recent launch of Ring’s Research functionality fueled by AIwhich allows users to locate specific moments in video recordings.
