Jake Knapp became the first person in the history of the PGA Tour to break 60 and draw a 61 or less in the same season.

He pulled an 11-mine of 61 on Friday, in the process that beats a classic rocket album which experienced less than a day.

But that was still not enough to put it in the top six, entering the weekend at the Detroit Golf Club.

Chris Kirk (65), Philip Knowles (64) and Andrew Putnam (66) share the second round advance at 14 sous. Jackson Suber (65) was another kick back.

Aldrich Potgieter, who had a 70 after sharing the 18 -hole advance with Kevin Roy after the two shot a record of 62, and Mark Hubbard was another blow behind the leader.

Knapp was in a large pack of players, including Collin Morikawa (64), Hideki Matsuyama (66) and Roy (71), three shots from the advance before the third round.

The Knapp, 31, who won Mexico open last year as a recruit, started the second round 130th in the field of 156 players after opening with a 72. He took the disappearance with nine birdies and an eagle in a round without Bogey.

“I was probably upset all night and this morning, so I think it may have helped a little,” he said.

Knapp, classified n ° 99 in the world, is the only player of the tour to be drawn 61 or better in two laps this season.

He shot a 58 -year -old record of 59 – one from the 58 tour taking place by Jim Furyk in 2016 – at Cognizant Classic four months ago, when he broke the tournament marking before cooling off and binding for the sixth.

Knapp broke the 18 -hole record at the Detroit Golf Club which was set on Thursday in the first round when Potgieter and Roy both fired a 62.

“I have the impression that when I start to sorters, I want to do more,” said Knapp. “I even thought about about 59 years old when I stuck it near my third at the last hole.”

The Knowles, 28, pulling for his first PGA Tour victory, cup for the third time in 11 events after failing at the weekend at five consecutive tournaments.

“It’s not my best year so far by any stretch of imagination, but golf is funny,” he said. “When you play badly, you never feel well playing well.

Kirk, 40, whose sixth victory was the opening tournament of the season last year in Kapalua, opened the second round with three consecutive birds and finished with nine Birdies and two Bogeys.

Most leaders were in morning groups, when the conditions were more favorable and Putnam was an exception.

Putnam played in the afternoon when the wind was stiff and swirling on a hot and hot day. He started strong with three birdies and a bogey on the first nine before obtaining a single birdie in the back, putting him in the position to possibly win his second PGA Tour event and the first since 2018.

“The wind came, obtained a few delicate holes there,” he said, “so happy to be able to cringe him.”
