True Love lost its first label with style with Victory in the Queen Mary Stakes to Royal Ascot.
Formed by Aidan O’Brien and mounted by Ryan Moore, True Love had driven the winner and stablemat of Coventry Stakes from Tuesday to the house on her last departure and was duly sent from the favorite of 9/4.
True Love took a while to make her way in the race while Zelaina gave an early burning rhythm, but she remained a real effect in the last Furlong to beat the flower head of 100/1, with the Raider American Raider Lennilu by Patrick Biancone.
It was the number 93 victory for O’Brien during the big meeting, although quite surprising his first in Queen Mary.
He said: “She is charming and in his first race, Ryan entered and said that they will no longer beat her, then after her second round, Wayne (Lordan) said the same thing, that they no longer beat her, then you have to consider the two who beat her (Lady Iman and Gstaad) are very good horses.
“Ryan gave her a beautiful walk and Michael (Tabor) has always loved her and always talked about her. It’s great because her mother (attractive) is as a foal in the city of Troy and that her sister is as a foal of Wootton Bassettt so it’s really wonderful.
“She was attracted by herself and there was no pace where she was, so she had to go doing her own job and that is what Ryan did, he was excellent for her. She was probably the strongest in the last half and when she went, she really moved away.
“Ryan said he was a little slow to walk and a little on the back all the time and I think that is why he was trying to stir up a little, but late, she was really strong.
“She had to work very hard and the only place where she was going to make the company was in the middle and Ryan did very well to let her go there. It was under the pump far, but so strong at the line and is obviously high class.
“She is really like a four -year -old girl and Ryan thought she would be better when she goes up to six stadiums and that she is a great mature filly that works in the ring like a four -year -old child, she is so worn – she is something to hope.”
On the future levels, O’Brien added: “I think we are impatient to go on a trip now, the guys will decide this. You imagine that she would have no problem going six furlans, but it is not always and it is always an influence at high speed.
“The winner of Queen Mary always seems to go to Deauville (Prix Morny) or the Curragh (Airlie Stud Stakes) and it would really be the two races where there is the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes in Newmarket in July. It could happen too early, but we will see how she is.
The Carmers have maintained its undefeated record with a determined display in the queen’s vase.
First Runner at the Royal Aliming for coach Paddy Twomey, the Wootton Bassett Colt had successfully completed its two previous departures from Ballinrobe and Navan and was a 9/2 to finish its tripled in this group two miles-six.
Still in the foreground in the hands of Billy Lee, the Carmers succeeded Shackleton by turning the turn to home and responded to each call from his rider to push the pair of stay of Furthur and Rahiebb, with three quarters of length from the winning margin.
