Russia releases revil pirates after the conviction

Four members of the Ransomware Group revil were released from the guard despite the plea guilty of fraud and distribution of malicious software. The Dzerzhinsky court in Saint Petersburg authorized Roman Muromsky, Andrei Bessonov, Mikhail Golovachuk and Dmitry Korotaev to walk freely after having sentenced them to five years in prison on Monday, judging that the gang members had spent enough time in a Russian detention center pending a trial.

According to Russian press agency CupMuromsky, Bessonov, Golovachuk and Korotaev confirmed that they were involved in revil activities between October 2015 and January 2022, and mainly targeted by American citizens. This includes “carding”, a form of fraud and money laundering that involves using stolen credit card information to buy prepaid gift cards.

The court also ordered Bessonov to sell two BMW 2020, and a Mercedes-Benz C200 2019 and more than a million dollars (in American rubles and dollars) to seize Korotaev. The conviction included no fine.

A total of 14 meetings of the revil were arrested in January 2022, including four – Daniil Puzyrevsky, Artem Zayets, Alexey Malzemov and Ruslan Khansvyarov – received prison terms until Six and a half years in October. One of them was not currently thinking or will be extradited to the United States.
