England director Sarina Wiegman did not exclude that Lauren James will present to herself as number 10 at the European Championships after her return to 7-0 victory against Jamaica.
James made his first appearance since he suffered an injury to the hamstrings in April as she left the bench during the last warm-up match of England before going to Switzerland as they seek to defend their European crown.
The Chelsea star had an immediate impact, creating Alessia Russo for the fifth of the England match, and Wiegman said that she was satisfied with 23 years.
“We still build it,” said Wiegman. “She worked so hard to be here where she is now. In Chelsea first, but the last two weeks in the training camps, she could do each training session and very well.
“Now it is the first time that she could have minutes and we hope that next week, we can continue to build it in France.”
Despite the fact that James is often used in a larger area for Chelsea, Wiegman has chosen to use it in more central areas against reggae Girlz. This almost brought an immediate fortune because she threatened to mark a few moments after her arrival, flamboyant a volley above the bar of the region.
A few moments later, James again derived the inner field and this time became a supplier. The former Manchester United star delivered a delicate bullet to the post which was encountered by Russo to extend the advantage of the host.
“We know that we have players who can play in different positions,” said Wiegman when he asked him about James playing in a more central position.
“LJ played a lot in advance, she can also play on the sides. She can also play in 10. This is what I wanted to see today in this position 10 and see how it works. I think it went very well.”
Wiegman admitted that there were still decisions to be made concerning the team that will start on Saturday against France.
“We know that next week, we have to pass our game to the next level. But what we wanted to do was play a good game, entertain the fans, prepare for next week and get everyone out of this game.
“This shows that we have a good team and that we have many options and competition for positions. Today, we have had six goals from the gap of different players, which is good in euros and that shows that players can score goals.
“There is a lot of competition in progress in advance and in the midfield, so we will understand in the coming days how we will start.”
“There are a lot of talents (in the midfielder.) I think there is a really healthy competition within the team and it doesn’t matter who plays, the other players want them to do well.
“No matter the role I play in the euros, I will make sure to give 100% when I go to the field. But obviously, it was nice to start today and get on the match sheet.
“I think we have a team full of talents. Really exciting players. Players who have a lot of experience and players who are not afraid to participate in their first tournament. This is something that can really be excited.”
