Singer Jill Sobule, known for the 1995 song “I Kissa a Girl”, died in a house fire Thursday morning, her representatives said. She was 66 years old.
The details on the place where the fire occurred was not clear to the declaration of the representatives, and there was no immediate response to a request for more details on Thursday evening.
“Jill Sobule was a force of nature and the human rights defender whose music is woven in our culture,” said manager John Porter in a statement.
“I kissed a girl” reached No. 20 on the modern rocky graph of Billboard and was the first record openly on the theme of Billboard.
Sobule’s song “Supermodel” from the “Clueless” soundtrack was also a pop success.
Sobule recently created a musical from an adulthood, “F — 7th year”, an Off-Broadway program that made its debut in 2022. It was a nomine for dramatic cabinet for “Musical Outstanding” next year and was appointed a choice of critic of the New York Times.
Sobule was to perform on Friday in Denver at the Tuft theater, where an informal rally will now be held to remember it instead, said its representatives.
In 2008, Katy Perry released “I Kiss a Girl”, which was not a cover of Sobule’s song. After Sobule made comments which, she said, were deliberately exaggerated and ironic, she was targeted by the fans of Perry who took the comments seriously.
“I may be a cynical touch about the company, but I have never really been angry or I had sick feelings towards Katy herself,” Sobule wrote on what was then known as Huffington Post. “I was actually in a happy little way of being the girl” kissed a girl “.”
