Hull Kr hung on to a 10-6 dramatic victory to the Wigan reigning champion, which almost confirmed the first place in the Betfred Super League this year after a successful confrontation at the Brick Community Stadium.
The first half’s first half of Dean Hadley and six points of the Boot of Rhyse Martin finished what should have been a much more beautiful victory for visitors, who could have been punished after Adam Keighran reduced the deficit late.
The reigning champions had barely found a sniff throughout a unilateral meeting, but while the latter were running, it required a pair of heroic plated of Elliot Minchella and Tom Davies to confirm the victory of Willie Peters’ men.
This means that Rovers now has a practically unassailable six -point lead with only five games to play in regular season and must now be strong to continue and conclude a domestic hat -trick with their first big final victory in October.
It was a mark of Wigan resilience that Rovers only rejecting an eight-point lead at the break, thanks to the opening of Hadley’s 10th minute and a conversion, and two penalties of Martin, while the hosts continued to fight without their Talismanic half-back Benanic.
Keighran intervened in the absence of French and Jack Farrimond, while Rovers also presented a sealing spine, Arthur Mourgue continuing to go beyond the suspended mayor.
The opener of Hadley off the short pass of Mourgue crowned a dominant opening phase and promised more, Kelepi Tanginoa and Jack Broadbent in the depths of the territory of the house and only a few desperate shirt tail of Harry Smith refusing to Rovers a second thanks to Joe Burgess.
The Rovers were denied a penalty trial over 35 minutes despite an obstruction of the Wigan skipper, Liam Farrell, who was duly sinning, and the visitors were forced to settle for two additional points of the penalty of Martin.
A tetchy start to the second half did not help the cause of Wigan because they temporarily lost Keighran and Tyler Dupree for the evaluations of the head injuries, the latter after a confrontation with Jaerea-Hargreaves, who seemed lucky to escape the punishment.
But despite being endowed with many opportunities for their reckless hosts, Rovers continued not to find the key to unlocking the Wigan back line and marking the second trial that would surely have made the game safe.
Instead, after Burgess abandoned a good chance on the left side, he fell in Martin again to push his side two -digit after Kruise Leeming was penalized in the tackle 25 meters.
Wigan received a lifeline with seven minutes to travel when Burgess overturned Smith’s high kick and Keighran crossed their first chance of the second half before converting to transport his team to the four to 10-6.
In the midst of increasing tension, Wigan was in vain to shape a great escape, but some great tackles of the Rovers prevented them, and the final hooter triggered wild celebrations among the players of the Rovers and their ranks massaged with fans behind the messages.
