Leeds Rhinos won a massive victory in the fifth round of Super League when they hung on to win a 12-10 victory against Wigan Warriors at the Amt Headingley stadium.
Leeds had the slight advantage at half-time thanks to a non-converted Riley Lumb, and Jake Connor Penalty, Wigan striking in the dying half-time moments thanks to Liam Marshall to bring the scoring to 6-4.
Wigan then struck the front with a converted effort by Bevan French, but the key moment came while Ryan Hall, during his 500e career appearance, offered a help in mind to send Jack Sinfield with Connor converting to put Leeds 12-10 in advance.
The rules of the rugby league dictate that a pass to the head can only be judged if it is deliberate, and Hall appeared as surprised as anyone by the incident, which was examined several times on video before the allocation of the test.
“It is very rare that the ball comes out of the head of a player, but at the end of the day, it is the rules and it’s a test,” said Leeds head coach Brad Arthur. “It doesn’t seem pretty but we will take it.”
From there, the rhinoceros hung on the full -time hooter with reigning champions which sagged, sending the South South Savage stand.
The victory passes to Leeds in sixth row of the table, Wigan remaining just in the lead in fifth despite the defeat.
In the conditions of Rainteful Headingley while Hall is dip in its monumental moment, it was a rapid opening of some meetings between two of the Giants of the Super League while Brodie Croft of the Rhinos continuously tried to challenge the right edge.
The breakthrough made the way to the hosts in the 10th minute while the winger of the last minute Wigan, Douglas, groped a high kick, allowing Lumb to pass the French and to go to the corner to give his team an advance of 4-0.
After the test, the struggle was entered, the two sides ending well because the southern stand became stronger and louder.
With a penalty for offside in the 27th minute at the next score, Leeds called the T-shirt and Connor forced to give his team a six-point advantage.
However, in the last moments of the first 40, Wigan did what they do best while Harry Smith sent a pearl at a Grubber kick so that Marshall rushes into the area to bring the scoring to 6-4 at the end of the first half.
After errors and penalties put Wigan in the early 40 seconds with territory, time has arrived so that the French showed his skills to dance in the short term, with Smith adding the extras to put Wigan in front for the first time in the 49th minute.
However, the pivotal moment came when the hour of the hour, Hall, came with the most bizarre assists while running the ball trying to kick so that Sinfield dives, Connor converted to move the outfit of the house 12-10 in front with a little more than 10 minutes to play.
Despite Wigan by continuing their arms at random, Leeds was held firm in his defense and managed to see him at the Hooter full -time to give their fans a huge victory.
Leeds Brad Arthur’s chief coach of Leeds Brad:
“I’m just happy for the club and the players. It was a difficult effort.
“We can be smarter with some of the things we have done in the second half, but there is a lot of evidence there that they really care as a group.
“They had to fight hard but we tried to throw it a few times.
“It’s stimulating morale. I’m so happy for Ryan Hall.”
Warriors Matt Peet’s head coach:
“I have pride. I thought we had defended in particular in the second half as a Wigan team.
“It was a high quality game and there are things we are going to look at on both sides of the ball that we can do better.
“But there was a lot to love with young players in terms of their commitment and their effort.
“I am generally proud of performance.”
The Catalan dragons won consecutive super League victories with a complete 26-4 victory against Castleford in the jungle.
The Steve McNamara team shed light on a troring downpour in the first half to score twice through Tevita Pangai Junior and Alrix Da Costa before two tries in the second period of Fouad Yaha and Sam Tomkins put them out of sight.
Castleford joined the last stages and Wing Innes senior reduced the deficit with the only score of his team, but it was too little late because the West Yorkshire team slipped to a fourth defeat in its first five games.
The two games won their first victories in the Super League of the season the last time, after losing their first three matches.
Castleford beat Salford 22-14 and the Catalans also won a home victory, 11-0 against Leeds in Perpignan.
