Triple world speedway champion Tai Woffinden was transported by plane to hospital following a “very serious” accident in Poland.
The 34-year-old man, the most decorated speedway runner in Great Britain, would receive treatment in a Krosno hospital after being involved in an accident of three riders during the race for Rzeszow.
Woffinden got tangled with teammate Franciszek Majewski and crashed before the first round, the meeting was then abandoned after being transferred to the hospital.
Reports in Poland claim that the 34 -year -old man broke the femur and both hands in the incident.
“Our rider, Tai Woffinden, had a very serious accident during the seventh race in a combat match in Krosno,” read an article on the official Facebook page of Rzeszow.
“Tai was transported by helicopter to Rzeszów, where his condition is now diagnosed by doctors. Detailed information will be provided after exams.
“We would like to thank (the president of Krosno) Grzegorz Leśniak for his rapid reaction to the accident of our rider and for having given him all the help. So, we hold with you!”
Born in Scanthorpe, Woffinden had just returned to the bicycle after the end of his 2024 season by a broken elbow nine months ago.
“Sheffield Speedway is aware of a racing accident involving Tai Woffinden in Poland this afternoon,” said a statement by Sheffield Speedway.
“Out of respect for Tai and his family, we politely ask supporters not to respond or share rumors.
“We will provide supporters with an official update when it is appropriate to do so.”
