Before jumping in the news, just a bit of household maintenance. I put “this week wheels” on break for a few weeks while I arrive in more electric vehicles, hybrids, electric bikes and robotaxis. Stay listening!
Waymo concluded an agreement with the San Francisco airport commission – and by extension the city – to use its vehicles to map the airport roads. This news received general coverage due to the potential for the city to finally give Waymo the authorization to extend its Robotaxi service to the airport. For the moment, this only covers mapping and vehicles will be led manually.
Some small birds have shared the Agreement conditionswhich includes two important points. A source described them as “concessions”. And it is likely that these terms will belong to future agreements.
Waymo accepted data sharing after each vehicle mapping session, according to the agreement that Techcrunch has seen. This “data interface agreement” requires Waymo to follow its vehicles when they enter and leave the airport and provide time, geographic location, identification, travel identifier, transaction type, the unique identifier based on the driver and the vehicle license plate number, according to the agreement.
The agreement also prohibits Waymo from using autonomous vehicles to move commercial products. Of course, Waymo no longer has an autonomous truck program, but a language like this counts for groups like teamsters.
