The block of 27 members claims that the latest Washington threats against his exports are “absolutely unacceptable”.
The European Union has promised to take countermeasures against the United States if the administration of US President Donald Trump introduces 30% of unattracts from the block next month.
After the ministers met in Brussels on Monday to discuss the pricing threat Trump published this weekendEU’s commercial representative, Maros Sefcovic, said that such a Washington decision would be “absolutely unacceptable”.
Sefcovic said that the block of 27 countries, which is the largest trading partner in the United States, wanted to conclude an agreement through negotiations.
“I am absolutely 100% sure that a negotiated solution is much better than the tension that we could have after August 1,” he told journalists in Belgium, adding that “we must be prepared for all the results”.
Lars Lokke Rasmussen, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, who currently holds the EU presidency, has strengthened the same message.
“The EU remains ready to react and this includes robust and proportionate countermeasures if necessary and there was a strong sensation in the unit room,” he said.
As part of his preparations, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed that the EU had developed plans to target American goods worth 24.5 billion dollars.
The latest climbing of Trump’s trade war alarmed politicians and European companies operating in Europe.
The German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that such high American tasks “would hit the German export industry to the heart”.
Meanwhile, the European Union’s American Chamber of Commerce, a group that represents the large US EU companies, said Trump’s plan could “generate harmful training effects in all EU sectors and American economies”.
In the midst of uncertainty, European actions fell on Monday, with the stocks of cars and alcohol among the least affected.
Speaking on Monday at the Oval Blanche Office, Trump said that he was still willing to speak with business partners, including the EU, while he was trying to stimulate the American economy and revitalize national manufacturing.
After targeting dozens of countries with so-called “reciprocal prices” in April, the American president interrupted them for 90 days to negotiate individual agreements.
In addition to targeting the EU last week, Trump also threatened to bring 25% of prices against Japan and South Korea, 30% of prices against Mexico and 35% of prices against Canada.
