Pelicot was congratulated on a global scale for his courage during the trial, which forced changes to the law on French rape.
Gisele PelicotWho was greeted abroad after testifying to her husband and dozens of other men who raped her, received the first civic honor of France.
Pelicot, 72, was appointed knight of the Legion of Honor on a list announced before the national day of July 14 of France, the AFP news agency reported on Sunday.
It was part of 589 people appointed for honor, which recognizes the national service based on merit.
Pelicot refused to remain anonymous and was published publicly during a trial in 2024 against her former husbandDominique Pelicot, who drugged her and arranged her so that she was raped by dozens of men for a decade.
His co-conspirators tried to claim that they did not know that the acts were not consensual and blamed the husband.
Gisele Pelicot at the time described him as “cowardice trial” and said that there was no excuse for mistreating her when she was unconscious. His testimony seized the world and led to Dominique Pelicot and 50 co-accused be found guilty in the mass rape case.
Rolled for her courage by exposing the case, which forced a change in the law of rape in France, she has since been named among the most influential people in the world in international lists.
Gisele Pelicot has not spoken more from the trial. According to her lawyer, she focuses on writing a book, planned for her release in 2026.
Writers, artists and international personalities are also on the list of the Legion of Honor.
