The teenage son of the former New York Brett Gardner Yankees star died unexpectedly after falling into vacation, according to the family.
Brett Gardner, 41, and his wife, Jessica Gardner, announcement The tragic loss via the social media pages of the Yankees on Sunday. Their 14 -year -old son Miller Gardner fell ill alongside several other members of the family traveling, according to the press release.
“We have so many questions and so few answers at this stage, but we know that he died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday March 21,” they wrote.
The couple, who shares a eldest son, Hunter Gardner, did not reveal more details on their trip or the disease that Miller Gardner contracted. In their declaration, they asked that the public “respects our wishes for a private life while we mourn and are looking for healing”.
“Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet understand our life without his contagious smile,” they wrote. “He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, family and friends. He has lived life as much as possible every day.”
They thanked “all those who set their hand to offer support and encouragement during this difficult period”, extending their prayers to friends, teammates of their late son and “all the other families who lost a child far too early while we share their sorrow”.
Former voltigger, Brett Gardner has spent his entire baseball career in 14 seasons with the Yankees. He was part of the team when he won his latest world series in 2009, just a year after making his MLB debut.

“Words seem insignificant and insufficient to try to describe such an unimaginable loss,” said Yankees on social networks. “It is not only Brett who has literally grew up in this organization for over 17 years – just like his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.”
