The former president of Nigeria Buhari, the most populous head of the Nation in Africa, died at the age of 82

Lagos, Nigeria – The former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria twice as military head of state and Democratic president, died at the age of 82, his press secretary announced Sunday.

Buhari died in London on Sunday afternoon, where he received medical treatment in recent weeks. When he was elected in 2015, during his fourth attempt, he became the first opposition candidate to win a presidential election.

He directed the most populous nation in Africa until 2023, when he was replaced by Bola Tinubu, also of the all progressive congresses.

The presidency of Buhari was plagued by extremist murders, a plunging economy and emerging corruption. He faced similar circumstances when he took power for the first time in 1983, after a military coup.

Tinubu sent the vice-president to bring his body back to the house of London and ordered that flags are controlled in half of the staff while the country enters a period of mourning.

Coming from the northern North Muslim of Nigeria, the Austere Buhari emerged on a wave of good will at the back of popular anger with the government to be elected president in 2015. He had promised to put an end to killings and clean the ramping corruption in one of the largest economies and producers of oil on the continent.

However, at the end of his eight -year term, this good will towards him had faded. More Nigerians died due to increasing insecurity while corruption has spread through the government.
