The former American republican representative of Texas Blake Farenthold, who left the congress in the midst of allegations of sexual harassment, has died. He was 63 years old.
He died in a Corpus Christi hospital and suffered from heart and liver problems in recent years, said Steve Ray, his former longtime political consultant. Farenthold’s wife Debbie Farenthold confirmed that he died on Friday.
Blake Farenthold was elected in 2010, upsetting the long -standing American Democratic representative Solomon Ortiz. Seven years later, Farenthold announced that he would not ask for re -election.
In a video he published on the Facebook page of his campaign at the time, he denied the three -year accusations of a former assistant, who understood that he had submitted it to comments and sexually suggestive behavior, then dismissed her after his complaint. He apologized for an office atmosphere which, according to him, included “destructive gossip, casual comments, off -colored jokes and behavior which was far from being professional”.
He said in the video that if he stayed at Congress, he would have spent months trying to justify himself.
“We are all making mistakes,” said Ray on Saturday. “He made mistakes.”
Ray described it as a “technician” interested in the Internet and technology before getting involved in politics.
“He did a great job as a member of the congress for this field,” said Ray, noting that Farenthold cared to fight crime and promote transparency. “Her heart was really in the right place.”
Before becoming a member of the Congress, Farenthold was an acolyte for a conservative talk-emission animator, said Ray.
“When he decided to run, no one in the world thought he was going to win,” said Ray.
When he left his duties, Farenthold began his own radio broadcast, which he continued until his death.
In addition to his wife, Farenthold is survived by two adult girls, Morgan Baucum and Amanda Lawrence, said Ray.
