London, United Kingdom – Most of the British who oppose the War of Israel against Gaza believe that the assault, which has to date killed more than 55,000 people, is equivalent to genocide, according to a new poll.
The survey, carried out by Yougov and commanded by the charitable action Action for Humanity and the defenders’ Defense group of the International Center for the Palestinians (ICJP), revealed that 55% of the British are against the attack on Israel. A significant number of these opponents – 82% – said that Israel’s shares represent the genocide.
“This translates into 45% of the United Kingdom adults who consider Israel’s actions as a genocidal,” said Action for Humanity and ICJP.
The details of the survey, to which 2,010 people responded in early June, were released on Wednesday.
Sixty-five percent said that the United Kingdom should enforce the arrest warrant of the International Criminal Court for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he had to visit Great Britain.
“It is clear that a majority of the public here is disgusted with the conduct of Israel, and an increasing number agree that it is clearly a genocide,” said Othman Moqbel, head of action for humanity.
He added that all except a few believe that the United Kingdom should do “everything that is in its power to arrest Israel and ask for justice against those responsible”.
“The government’s inability to recognize the extent of the crimes inflicted on Gaza does not simply put them on the wrong side of the story, it puts them on the wrong side today.”
Tens of thousands of British have come down to the street in the last 20 months to protest against the War of Israel against Gaza.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government has adopted harder tones in Israel in recent weeks and sanctioned senior officials. In 2024, the United Kingdom suspended 30 weapons export licenses to Israel for use in Gaza in the concerns that Israel raped international humanitarian laws.
But criticisms deplored the pace and power of the United Kingdom’s response, calling for more strict sanctions and measures that would prevent Israel from receiving F-35 components made in Great Britain.
The investigation also underlined the British positions which voted for the Labor Party during the general elections of 2024.
Of the 68% of labor voters against Israel’s actions in Gaza, 87% believe that they represent a genocide. Seventy-eight percent of labor voters said the United Kingdom should apply the ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
The United Kingdom suggested He would respect the mandate ICC.
“The British government is completely disconnected from the British public that they are supposed to represent, and the Labor Party is even more disconnected from their own voters,” said Jonathan Purcell of the International Justice Center for the Palestinians.
“The development of British policies should be based on compliance with the obligations of international law, despite everything, but this survey will simply show the level of popular support for such policies.
