The Diddy’s trial was abbreviated this week. The procedures were actually canceled Wednesday after a juror called Sick, and the Federal Court was not in session Thursday respecting the Juneteenth festivals. But this morning, all key players returned to the courtroom to hear the testimony of one of the rapper’s former personal assistants.
Here is what you need to know about day 27 of the trial:
Diddy, wearing a white sweater and black pants, seemed engaged in today’s testimony. He seemed to pay particular attention to the prosecutor Maurene Comey As she questioned the summary of the American government Joseph CeccieloA special agent of the Department of Internal Security.
Paul, the former assistant, struck an ambiguous note by concluding the testimony of the day. When asked by the prosecutor Christy Slavik What he thinks of Diddy today, Paul replied with two cryptic words: “It’s complicated.”
Cerciello, the special agent of internal security, testified on the graphics of evidence compiled by the prosecutors to confirm that they correspond to thousands of records of recordings, including text messages.
Diddy will certainly not testify. But that doesn’t really matter. Indeed, in a modern criminal case – in particular a federal criminal affair – prosecutors can obtain the “testimony” of witnesses and defendants before the jury without them taking a position. The painting through thousands of pages of text messages is something in which special agents and excellent federal prosecutors. It does not matter that a single text message or a short series of messages can be removed from its context. Prosecutors will present it and add their own context. After all, if the defendant thinks that these statements are misleading, he can take a stand and dispute them, right? Except that most of the time, the accused does not take the position.
So far, the star witnesses have probably not been humans. These are things like text messages, financial files and other documents. For any reason, people have always put things in text messages as if they could never become public. We are all guilty too. We are all part of a “group” text message with our friends or our family where we say things that, if they were publicly revealed, would cause us a lot of problems. Admittedly, for Diddy, these texts caused him a lot of problems – probably more than the people who testified against him.
US government prosecutors are expected to rest their file on Monday. Diddy’s defense team reported that he will need about two days to present his case. If this approximate calendar is valid, fence arguments could take place on Thursday.
