A federal judge in the United States ordered the release of a Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalilwhich has been detained since March by the immigration authorities for its involvement in the demonstrations of Palestinian rights at Columbia University.
On Friday, the decision came from a federal court in New Jersey, where Khalil lawyers challenge his detention. He is separated from the legal push against his expulsion which will continue to take place in the immigration courts.
It is not clear if Khalil – which is a legal permanent resident – will be immediately released. He was the first activist known to be detained and has revoked his status of legal immigration by the administration of President Donald Trump about participation in student demonstrations.
His case drew national attention, especially after the authorities refused him the opportunity to attend the birth of his First -born son in April.
