The Yemen Houthis say that Israeli air strikes killed the prime minister controlled by rebels

An Israeli air strike killed the government controlled by the Prime Minister of Yemen, the Houthi militant group supported by Iran said on Saturday.

Ahmed al-Rawahi was killed Thursday alongside other ministers during a strike on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, the rebels said in a statement.

“We declare the martyrdom of the fighter Ahmed Ghalib al-Rahawi, Prime Minister of the Government of Change and Construction, as well as a number of his colleagues ministers,” he said.

Al-Rahawi, who had been Prime Minister of the Government led by Houth since 2024, was killed in a government workshop evaluating “his activities and performances for a year of work,” the statement added.

After his death, President Houthi Mahdi Al-Mashat appointed Mohammed Ahmed Muftah, the first Deputy Prime Minister.

The Israeli army said on Thursday that it “precisely reached a military target of the Houthi terrorist regime in the Sanaa region in Yemen”.

The Houthis have shot missiles on Israel repeatedly during his war with Hamas, supervising their attacks against Israel and the delivery of the Red Sea as part of an allied defense of the Palestinians in Gaza.

In response to Houthi attacks, Israel has bombed rebel areas in Yemen.
