The Tour de France and the Tour de France Women with Zwift both take place in the United Kingdom in 2027, creating history as the first major departures for men and women which take place in the same country outside of France.
The Tour de France women with Zwift has never been staged in the United Kingdom before, but will go to England, Scotland and Wales during the 2027 event.
The male race will start in Edinburgh while it will return to Great Britain for the first time since three stages took place in Yorkshire and London in 2014. The United Kingdom hosted the event in 2007.
The director general of the Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme, said: “The Tour de France and the United Kingdom share a rich history, and I am delighted to bring the big departure to the country in 2027.
“Great Britain has always welcomed the tour with enthusiasm and pride, and this collaboration through England, Scotland and Wales promises to make the event even more special.”

The first edition of the Tour de France women took place in 2022 when Annemiek Van Vleuten in the Netherlands was victorious. The female version of the Male Blue Riband event in cycling was previously known by various names between 1984 and 2009 before becoming the course of the Tour de France between 2014 and 2021.
The Prime Minister of Scotland, John Swinney, said: “It is a great building to welcome the Tour de France in Scotland. We know that this is one of the most emblematic and inspiring competitions in sport, and that Scotland offers the perfect scene for major events.
“The organization of the tour promises to be a unique opportunity to present our country to its many fans around the world as part of a chronology of incredible sporting events in Scotland from 2026 to 2028.”
The team of Slovenia Tadej Pogacar from the Emirates Water Team won its third crown of the Tour de France last year, while Kasia Niewiadoma, the Poland of the Canyon-Sram team, is the title champion of the Tour de France.

The Prime Minister of the Pays de Wales, Eluned Morgan, added: “The Welsh stadium of the Grand Departure of the United Kingdom 2027 promises to be a memorable experience for competitors and fans. Offer breathtaking landscapes, warm and welcoming communities and an ever growing fans of cycling enthusiasts, the largest cycle race in Croeso.
“We are going to take advantage of our successful history of hosting cycling events on the road, ensuring that the Tour de France has a positive and lasting impact on cycling in Wales, by presenting the country of Wales as a high -level international destination for cyclists and by encouraging more people in Wales to get into the bike.”
“Dual big departures to create a lasting heritage”
“The opportunity to welcome the great departures of the Male and Female Tour de France will cement the reputation of Great Britain as a destination for the main international sporting events,” said Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. “This will stimulate growth, attract new visitors and leave a lasting heritage for athletes and fans.
“The staging of the Tour de France women in Great Britain for the first time will also be a historic opportunity and will inspire the next generation of cyclists while supporting our mission to break barriers to women and girls to get more involved in sport.”
The biggest spectator event in the United Kingdom in history
The director of UK Sport Simon Morton sport events added: “We decided to welcome the Tour de France and the Tour de France women because we think that live sport is a fundamental element of the social fabric of our country, and that we should organize events accessible to people and communities across the country.
“It will be the biggest free spectator event ever organized in the United Kingdom, offering public access in the first row to world-class sports through villages, cities and cities. We are looking forward to sharing more details later in this really remarkable road.”

“The return of the Tour de France Grand Départ to Great Britain is an exciting moment for cycling in the United Kingdom,” said British CEO Cycling Jon Dutton Obe. “Accommodating male and female races together will be a first, and we think it has the potential to inspire more people to discover the joy and the advantages of cycling.
