Scottie Scheffler took a share of the head after the first round of the traveler championship, while Rory McILroy took a good start to rest two shots.
Scheffler seemed ready to claim the head solo while he was traveling nine with two holes to travel, but the world n ° 1 did the only Bogey in his round in the 17th and set up the last to finish on Thursday with his American compatriot Austin Eckroat.
Scheffler and McILroy, who had shared the first two majors of the year, failed to be asserted for the US Open last weekend, but rebounded this disappointment in a superb style.
The champion of masters McILroy failed to enter the mixture while JJ Spaun won the third major of the season, but resumed where he had stopped with a solid final round in Oakmont to take a departure without Bogey at TPC River Highlands.
McILroy, among the previous beginners in Cromwell, in New England, made three birdies on each side of the Tour to move less than two reference strokes at the start of the Eckroat.
“Overall, it was a good start for the tournament,” said McILroy.
“I just want to see good golf course and see better plans. I think that if you focus on it and focus on your quality of golf course and just focus on how to play your abilities at best, the result will take care of itself.
“There is no point in thinking about the result for the moment. I’m just trying to play as well as possible and do good swings, and if I do it enough, I will probably find myself in a position to have a chance to win.”
Scheffler, playing in the penultimate twinning of the day, ran five under the turn, then made an eagle at the 13th by five between the Birdies at 12 and 15th to go clearly on nine sous.
However, he missed the Fairway to the 17th test and failed to find green with his approach, before missing a 14 -foot chance for the peer.
McILroy was joined on six sous by playing a partner and the captain of the US Ryder Cup Keegan Bradley, as well as the former champion of the United States Wyndham Clark.
The European teammates of the McILroy Ryder, Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland, also made solid departures, shooting both 66 to stay four in advance.
Scheffler’s game partner, Spaun, failed to maintain his shape after claiming his first major, pulling on three over to go near the classification.
The triple major winner Jordan Spieth withdrew when five after 12 holes while he was fighting pain in his neck and back.
McILroy had spoken before the tournament of his optimism according to which a strong finish at the US Open had helped him turn a corner in terms of form, and he quickly supported this logic as a beautiful approach to four to have set up a first birdie.
He took advantage of the first by five by hitting a 20 feet for Birdie in the sixth, and quickly took another blow after an amazing approach to the long by three eighth.
The Northern Irishman would capitalize on the other by five on the course with another Birdie at 13 alone, then delivered a single from top to bottom to obtain another stroke in the court by four.
McILroy made a rare error with his tee shooting in the 17th, but struck a superb recovery of the rough on the water to find the heart of the green, then rolled in a putt of almost 30 feet for a bonus birdie.
The second round on Friday will see McILroy playing next to Bradley once again, the twinning at 6.45 p.m. Scheffler begins
