The American president says that he will only visit China at the invitation of the Chinese chief.
President Donald Trump denied having asked for a summit with Chinese president Xi Jinping while holding the possibility of visiting China during the invitation of his counterpart.
“The false news report that I am looking for a” summit “with President XI of China. It’s not correct, I’m not looking for anything! ” Trump said on Monday in an article on his Truth social platform.
“I can go to China, but it would only be at the invitation of President XI, which was extended. Otherwise, no interest! Thank you for your attention to this case. “
Trump’s comments occur after the news agency Reuters reported last week that the aid to the two leaders discussed a possible summit during a trip to Asia by the American president later this year.
The report, which quoted anonymous people familiar with the plans, said that Trump and Xi could possibly meet on the sidelines of the Summit of Economic Cooperation in Asia-Pacific which takes place in South Korea from October 30 to November 1.
Trump and Xi met for the last time face to face in 2019 on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
The United States and China are currently engaged in negotiations to reduce trade tensions that have increased since Trump has deployed its booming prices on Chinese exports.
On Monday, the secretary of the United States of the Treasury Scott Bessent and the Chinese Deputy Prime Minister, which he Lifeng met in Stockholm, Sweden, to launch two days of talks focused on a trade agreement before the end of a 90-day price of 90 days which ends on August 12.
Bessent said in an interview with Bloomberg Television last week that the administration was “a very good place with China now” and that the deadline of August could be extended in a “90 -day increment”.
