Two people were killed and at least three others, including a state soldier, were injured in what the authorities described as a series of incidents in Lexington, Kentucky, after a suspect for the first time the soldier.
The unidentified suspect fell a soldier from the Kentucky State police in the County of Fayette at 11:36 am, according to Lexington Police Lexington, Lawrence Weathers. The soldier arrested the suspect after receiving an alert from license plate in the region.
“The soldier was killed and the suspect fled,” said Weathers.
The soldier is in a stable state and receives treatment. The police have caught up with the suspect of the Baptist Church of Richmond Road, where Weathers said he had also opened fire.
“Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a link with the individuals of the Church,” said Weathers. “Four individuals were killed on the property of the church.”
Two women victims were pronounced deceased on the scene, said Weathers.
Two others, both men, were slaughtered, added the police chief. One is in critical condition while the other is stable.
“The suspect was killed by responding to the police and was declared who died on the scene,” said Weathers. “Information on suspects will be published after the notification of their family.”
The governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear addresses the series of shots in a post on X.
“Please pray for all people affected by these insane acts of violence, and thank the quick response from the Lexington Police Service and the Kentucky State Police,” Beshear wrote. “The details are always emerging and we will share more information as available.”
State police confirmed that the initial shooting was the same as that reported roughly at the same time near Blue Grass airport, about 16 miles northwest of the church.
The Lexington fire service said that he had responded to a shooting at 11:39 am at the airport and transported a person with “serious injuries” to the hospital, According to the affiliate NBC Wlex.
Blue Grass airport has confirmed in a statement that a “incident” had occurred on a road on the airport property. The airport said that it temporarily closed the roadway and the terminal as a precaution, but that it was reopened later.
Weathers added that the shooting was on the terminal road, but the incident was not linked to the airport.
Kentucky’s attorney general Russell Coleman thanked the first stakeholders in a statement after the shots and said that he was praying for the families involved. His office was also ready to help the agencies involved, added the Attorney General.
“This is another reminder of the serious danger that we ask the police to face each day,” said Coleman.
