UK children taken to hospital after using vapes laced with Spice

An increase in vapes contaminated by synthetic medication spices led to secondary school children be transported urgently to hospital.

Police Warned against a national increase in vapes contaminated by spices in secondary schools and in serious cases, children were transported to the hospital.

This comes after a study in a study led by the University last year of school heads who reported children collapsing and meeting at the hospital.

“We have seen vomiting and behavioral changes, and we had an incident where there were concerns that a child had a crisis. The reactions can be very, very wide,” warned Psco Jon Akehurst from the Wiltshire police.

Work with Bath University, Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire Advice, the police use a new device to test the alleged contaminated vapes to prevent the damage caused by the students.

“I invite parents to have conversations with your child on dangers and risks as well as what is happening if they use a vape that is contaminated by something,” said PCSO Akehurst.

“Clearly explain that if you take these things, it has an impact on your life,” he added.

The brutal warning comes after an investigation by the University of Bath found that one in six vapes confiscated in schools contained spices.

The study published in July of last year saw vapes confiscated in 38 schools in England, finding more than 16% contained the synthetic form of cannabis.

Professor Chris Pudney, from the University’s Life Sciences Department, carried out the tests using the device that instantly detects synthetic drugs.

Professor Pudney said, “We know that children can have heart stops when they smoke spices, and I think some have come closer to death.

“The heads of school tell me that the students collapse in the corridors and find themselves with long stays in intensive care.”
