The Ukraine security service said it had deployed special drones to attack the Russian military aerodrome in Kirovske in Crimea.
Ukraine said he had a night drone strike at Kirovske in Crimea aerodrome and said several Russian helicopters and an air defense system had been destroyed during the strike.
According to a Ukraine Security Service (SBU) press release, drones have targeted areas where Russian aviation units, air defense assets, ammunition deposits and unmanned air vehicles were located. The agency said that the helicopters in mid-8, mid-26 and mid-28, as well as a PAGE-S1 missile and a firearm system were destroyed.
“Secondary detonations continued throughout the night at the aerodrome,” said the SBU, qualifying the striking of wider efforts to disrupt Russian air operations. “The enemy must understand that military equipment and expensive ammunition are not sure now – not on the contact line, not in Crimea, and not at the back of the back.”
The Russian Defense Ministry said that more than 40 Ukrainian drones were killed overnight and Saturday morning during the Crimea.
At the same time, Ukrainian officials said two people had been killed and that 14 others were injured during a Russian drone strike on the port city of Odesa.
Odesa governor Oleg Kiper said on Telegram that those who had been killed were due to a drone strike on a “residential building”. Among the 14 injured, “including three children,” added Kiper.
The governor of the southern Kherson region, Oleksandr Prokudin, said that a person had been killed and that three others were injured in Russian strikes in the last day.
“Russian troops have targeted critical and social infrastructure and residential areas in the region,” added Prokudin.
Territorial gains
In the midst of the last attacks, the Russian Defense Ministry said that it had taken control of the Cervona Zirka colony in the Donetsk eastern region, which, according to Moscow, has been part of Russia for an illegal election in late 2022.
After direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in Turkiye this month to end the war, which began in 2022, the two parties could not achieve mutual understanding.
Moscow said that any territory taken during the war should be preserved. Kyiv firmly rejected any peace proposal which calls for abandoning land to Russia.
Friday, Russia President Vladimir Putin said the demands of the two countries were “absolutely contradictory”.
“This is why negotiations are organized and carried out, in order to find a path to bring them together,” Putin told a press conference in Minsk, Bélarus. He added that the two parties “would continue to contact more” after prisoner exchanges agreed in Istanbul talks were completed.
Russia and Ukraine have directed several exchanges of prisoners of war since they agreed to release more than 1,000 captured soldiers.
