The Parental Agency of Voice of America said on Friday that it had issued dismissal notices to more than 639 more employees, completing a decrease of 85% of the staff since March and effectively spends the end of a broadcasting network founded to counter Nazi propaganda.
Kari Lake, principal advisor to the American media agency for the world’s media, said that the staff reduction meant that 1,400 jobs had been eliminated as part of the agenda of US President Donald Trump to reduce agency staff to a statutory minimum.
“The reduction in force dismissal opinions was sent to 639 employees to USAGM and Voice of America, part of a long -term effort to dismantle an inflated and inexplicable bureaucracy,” said Lake in a statement.
She said that the agency had been “truy of dysfunction, bias and waste”.
Lake said this decision meant that the USAGM now operated near its statutory minimum of 81 employees. She said 250 employees would remain through USAGM, the voice of America and the Cuba Broadcasting office, which transmits news to Cuba managed by the Communists. She said that none of the 33 OCB employees had been dismissed.
This decision probably marks the end of the VOA, which was founded in 1942 to counter Nazi propaganda, operated in nearly 50 languages and reached 360 million people per week, living in authoritarian regimes.
In May, nearly 600 VOA entrepreneurs were rejected.
Some Republicans have accused the VOA and other media funded by the public of being biased against the Conservatives and have called to close them wider to reduce the government.
Another USAGM station, Radio Free Asia, which has already been reduced to the endowment in skeleton, said on Friday in an email of the staff he implemented additional holidays in his teams of human resources, prescriptions, security and research, training and evaluation.
Various cases are pending against USAGM cuts.
