Warrington Wolves recovered from a 16-point deficit to maintain his Betfred Super League Betfred Fauch hopes with a laborious 30-22 victory on the Dragons of the Catalans in difficulty.
Outside wolves, whose recent mediocre results were exacerbated by out-of-field problems, were amazed while the dragons ran into four first-hour trials at the Halliwell Jones stadium.
Three of the trials of the French part came from the former winger of St Helens Tommy Makinson, but his absence by an injury in the second half turned out to be expensive while the Wolves gathered.
Jake Thewlis crossed twice for the hosts on each side of an effort by Sam Stone and Josh Thewlis finally made the result, ending a series of three successive defeats in Warrington, in the last minutes.
Jake Thewlis scored a test in each half
Warrington coach Sam Burgess controversially abandoned the influential Matt Dufty for disciplinary reasons last week, warning the Australian he needed to “repair his behavior”.
Dufty’s name was missing in the Wolves team again and two other key players from Toby King and Paul Vaughan were also absent for unknown reasons.
The dragons, despite their own lack of form having won only one in their previous 10 under the new coach Joel Tomkins, initially exploited uncertainty in the ranks of the house.
Makinson only took four minutes to make his mark as he sank on the left.
Warrington pulled the level when they retained a kick Marc Sneyd and passionately kept the ball in life so that Zack Gardner marks a pass from George Williams in a loop.
However, defensively, the hosts had little cohesion and the Catalans opened them three times in rapid succession to open a 22-6 lead.
Matthieu Laguerre approached after struck the weak challenges of Sneyd and Stefan Ratchford, and Makinson caught another after Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet won a race at his own kick.
Boos then struck around the stadium while Makinson finished his 30-minute hidile when he jumped to catch a kick Luke Keary and Aispuro-Bichet won his third conversion.
Unfortunately for visitors, Makinson was injured in the score of this test and presented little in the rest of the game.
Warrington rallied to reduce the arrears at four points with tests on each side of half-time.
Jake Thewlis broke out on the left to give them hope and Stone went on the match sheet when he kicked Williams.
The momentum was now everything with the Wolves, but it was not before the 70th minute that they once again crossed the resilient defense of the dragons while Jake Thewlis produced a spectacular diving finish in the area.
Sneyd’s conversion of the touchline gave Warrington for the first time in the night and Josh Thewlis picked up a loose ball to secure the points at an end. Sneyd finished with his fifth goal of the night.
