Waymo finally has a musical experience worthy of his Robotaxi

I roll at the back of a waymo which navigates with autonomous in the animated streets of San Francisco with a relative ease thanks to 29 external cameras, six radar and five Lidar sensors all feeding in an AI model. For only $ 15, I can live what looks like a miracle of modern technology, and yet there is a throbbing thought that I cannot shake.

The music is zero here.

Waymo’s musical diffusion function looked like an aged benacle attached to a futuristic shell. Until this week, the passengers were limited to a few music stations that played Lo-Fi rhythms, smooth jazz, K-Pop or other genres that they may or may not take care. For those who wanted to listen to something more specific, they had to use another application of the parent company of Waymo Alphabet.

For iPhone users, this meant downloading the Google Assistant application and configuring it to connect to Spotify. At this point, you had to ask Google Assistant via written or verbal orders to broadcast certain songs, artists or reading lists on the Waymo. Even if you arrive at this point – to which you can be halfway towards your destination and listened to about three Lo -Fi beats – the service did not work reliably.

While I went up in a robotaxi full of advanced technologies, I was perplexed why Waymo had not found a simple way to broadcast my phone music in the speakers of the car – a breakthrough that car manufacturers and audio manufacturers understood a few decades ago.

This is why I was pleasantly surprised this week to see that Waymo launched a Spotify integration Allow users to transparently connect the musical diffusion services and Robotaxi. I immediately connected the services and praised a waymo to see how it would work.

Waymo’s Spotify integration is nothing revolutionary, but it adds to the user experience. It works transparently, which is almost what I expected by trying to play music on the speakers of my car in 2025. But riding in a waymo, listening to my own reading list or picking up where I stopped on a podcast, the rear seat of the Robotaxi feels more like my own space – which is more and more reason for which I opt for a way

To configure it, open the Waymo application and access the “Music” section, where you will notice a new offer that allows you to connect to Spotify. From there, you can press a button and allow Spotify to connect to Waymo, although while giving the Robotaxi supplier some access to your listening information.

I am sure that Apple Music users will soon want to broadcast their music and their podcasts in Waymos too. Waymo spokesperson Chris Bonelli told Techcrunch that the company still explored new personalization options, but did not specify when the company could add an Apple music integration.

Once my Waymo and Spotify accounts have been linked, I praised a waymo as I would usually do and I entered. On the Waymo touch screen on the rear seat, there is an option to select Spotify. I hit it and the podcast that I listened to on my headphones started to play from the exact place I left out.

You can activate or deactivate the “implementation” in Waymo’s music settings, and at the entrance, the Robotaxi will automatically start playing the song or the podcast that you listen to on Spotify. I liked to have lit it, but I have the impression that it could bring you into a strange situation if you listen to a podcast of real intense crime, then enter a waymo with work colleagues.

You can also use the Waymo touch screen to select from a variety of personalized playback lists that Spotify users know, such as your “day list” or other mix. However, this selection does not seem to include albums, audio books or podcasts that you have recently listened to.

Fortunately, your Spotify application now controls music in the Waymo. You can simply select any song or playlist you want on your smartphone and broadcast it throughout the vehicle like you use Apple Carplay or a Bluetooth speaker.

In the end, the Spotify integration made my Robotaxi more personalized; I was even able to modify the levels of bass, subwoofer and sorting in the speakers of the car. This customization may not be the main attraction for new users, but it could make them come back – and a loyal clientele is exactly what Waymo needs.
