Will Pryce of Hull FC feels that he is a better player now that he was before his fate in Australia, despite the admitted that some can see his movement as a “failure”.
Pryce, 22, joined the Newcastle Knights of Huddersfield Giants in 2024, but was limited to only six games in the LNR before leaving for compassionate land this year. A few days later, his move to Hull was confirmed, and he quickly made five Super League appearances before undergoing a hamstring injury in late May.
“Everything about Australia, I really miss it. I miss it a lot,” said Pryce Sky Sports on The bench podcast. “I think the lifestyle is great. I had fantastic people around me. And I would probably have been able to stay and perhaps hoped to have some LNR games to my credit this year, and hoped that if the injuries were happening, I could have played.
“But when I sat down and I was talking about John (Cartwright, Hull head coach) and Richard (Myler, CEO), we just explained how much they are invested in me to be an essential element of this team.
“I think anyone can say, especially at my age now, I don’t really want to enter and get out of a team. I want to try to play weekly weekly and prove that I can do it at this level.

Pryce explains her decision to join Hull FC
“I obviously had the opportunity to stay in Newcastle. I had a few opportunities to stay in Australia a little longer. But for me, it was a question of playing first -year rugby, and Hull was impatient to do me.”
Pryce is about to miss the next Hull Super League match – which is live on Sky Sports + against Huddersfield Saturday from 3 p.m. – But could come back against Salford Red Devils next month. Whenever he is next, Pryce will take his lessons in Australia.
“I have the impression that my expectations were probably to play a little more games in the LNR than what I did, but now looking at it, I worked hard enough to play games? No,” added Pryce.

Pryce discusses the change of direction of Hull FC
“It was only when I started to put the graft in the middle of the year and I started working a little stronger, becoming more fit, stronger, to put better performance in the reserve class there that I won the chance to play the LNR.
“I am really proud of the way I returned it and I worked a little louder and I got out of the comfort zone. There are not many English guys who can say that they have played in the LNR. Obviously, some people can turn around and say that it is a failure, and I came home and I did not manage to stay there.

“But for me, I learned so much life lessons. I learned so much rugby lessons that I probably would not have learned in England.
“The coaching that I had in Newcastle from their coaches there in Australia, you do not understand here. Young children do not understand this here. So go there to such a young age put me in good place, I would say.”
